Unlike the formidable Friday foxers, the Monday kind are designed with lone truth sleuths in mind. Roman, my Chief Foxer Setter, assures me the following brainteaser can be solved single-handedly. Crow all you like in the comments section, but please don’t spoil the puzzle for others by sharing solutions or dropping hints.
“Where am I?”
(Using the following clues in combination with Street View, Wikipedia, and other online tools, work out my location. The answer will appear under next Monday’s solo foxer)
I’m in a country that has no blue or white on its flag, no national airline, or operational nuclear power stations. I’m in a country that has a female PM, its own language, and a highest point lower than Zambia’s lowest point. I’m close to a No Stopping sign, and two stationary horse-drawn carriages. Behind me is a narrow strait, the far bank of which is dotted with cranes. I’m roughly 1.5 kilometres from a horological museum, a dolphinarium, and a barquentine. 200 metres away is a lepidopterarium. I share latitude with two European capitals. Hitler visited this city in the 1930s. There are more trees than people or cars in my immediate vicinity. I’m not in Pont-à-Mousson.
(Last week I was here)
And that would be my first Foxer ever, woohoo!
Welcome to [Answer expunged by order of Roman!]
Got it! These solo foxers are great.
I, too, am fond of the solo foxers—and, for that matter [redacted hint], where I spent a pleasant weekend some years ago.
Interesting! Never did this before, so I could use some more hints?
I assume the location on the map is the boundary of streetview where one would try to find a reference to the hinted location somehow (signs/building names) ?
Ignore the Pont-à-Mousson map – it’s purely decorative. To find this week’s location you need to analyse the clues in the text, steadily ruling out countries, regions, cities, districts etc. When you’ve narrowed things down a bit, using Street View to check for visual details like the stationary carriages and the No Stopping sign, should tell you whether you’ve arrived at the correct spot.
Good luck! Roman rates this one “medium difficulty”.
If you take a peek on //tallyhocorner.com/2021/01/solo-foxer-3/ I’ll post a comment showing how I found this location.
(Posting on there so that late arrivals here won’t see spoilers, and because Tim’s already posted the answer itself on that page)
Thank you!
What an interesting area.
Aha! I’d been in the right place before and gone straight past the stationary carriages without spotting them. Evidently a bit rusty, but I’m catching up!
