The “col” in fridayfoxercol.jpg is short for collaboration. Although today’s co-op puzzle has been executed by Roman, it owe its theme and the majority of its components to guest foxer setter Colonel_K.
The honeycomb below is a fancy form of wordsearch in which every cell is used, and words can curl and zigzag but never overlap. Each hive foxer has a theme (some past ones: gloves, mazes, earthquakes, and The 39 Steps). Identifying the theme is a vital part of the defoxing process. Colonel_K’s ‘double-bubble’ puzzle is composed of 29 answers.

d5 – Hoe (ylla, Electric Dragon)
e5 – Gog and Magog (Colonel_K)
PHILOSOPHER – Starting at the start of row R and ending at the start of row P.
KINGKONG on the same row P, fully horizontal
There’s GAUSS TANK at V6… is the theme “things I wish I were when I was a kid”?
Philosopher’s Egg is a thing!
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/philosophers%27%20egg
X8 MONOTREME
R11 ADVOCATE and T12 VIRGIN wraps around it nicely, but does not help with a theme at all
Especially doesn’t fit with the “things I wish I were when I was a kid” theme 🙂
Just having a quick look now, if Philosopher’s is correct then that leaves an eme, which is…
V1 CREME
.. for EGG.
Also goes with Monotreme 🙂
Makes:
T12 VIRGIN BOY
R11 – ADVOCAAT
F1 or 3 – CHICK
U4 or 5 – AROMA?
P2 – KITCHEN? :p
In other news, this puzzle is too big for my MS Snip program and I have to get up early, so off to bed rather than solve it all now. I shall return over the weekend when the other eager beavers will have solved the rest :).
H7 – FABERGE
T5 – ROBOTNIK
K6 – DEVILLED
G9 – SCOTCH
F11 – CURATE’S (could be G13, but that looks like an -ICY)
Theme = EGG
V1 – CREME
Y1 – GUDETAMA (can be translated to English as “lazy egg”)
Y2 – TEMPERA (PAINT)
S8 – IVO ROBOTNIK (EGGMAN)
V6 – GOODPASTURE (he invented methods for growing viruses and rickettsiae in chicken embryos and fertilized chicken eggs)
Y3 – PYSANKA (DECORATED EGG)
T6 – CANDLING (method used in embryology to study the growth and development of an embryo inside an egg)
X1 – MONOTREME
T1 – VIRGIN BOY
R11 – ADVOCAAT
O7 – KINDER SURPRISE
O9 – CLOWN (REGISTER)
Maybe:
R6 – TAMAGO (Egg in Japanese)
S5 – SUN WUKONG (Monkey King from Journey to the West. When the wind blows on the egg, it turns into a stone monkey that can already crawl and walk)
S5 – TAMAGOTCHI
Wrong start. Actually : R6 – TAMAGOTCHI
H4 – COLUMBUS
J7 – JOURDAIN SOCIETY (its aims being ‘the advancement of the science of oology’)
Then G13 – CURATE’S
K3 – TIMER
J1 – OEUF
Well, that’s it for me. I leave the rest to my fellow beavers.
A1 – EIER?
H4 – CHUCKIE
E9 – TIFFIN
With G4 or H4 CHUCKIE, then we could have :
B1 – PACE
Also, I wonder if in G2, we could have SHOCK (for Shock Egg). But the C and the O are not in the correct position for that word.
If Tim comes by, could you please let us know if we are on the right track?
Possibly KOSCHEI, who apparently hides his soul in a needle in an egg in a duck https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koschei
With CHUCKIE finishing at C2 rather than E1
PACE, CHUCKIE, and KOSCHEI are all correct.
The word in the top-left corner of the hive has been partially defoxed.
D5 DEATH?
https://evil.fandom.com/wiki/Death_Egg
C4 GHANA?
https://kuulpeeps.com/2020/07/15/the-ghanaian-obsession-with-eggs-in-all-its-glory/pop-culture/kuulios-kitchen
This is what I think we’ve got:
PYSANKA
GOODPASTURE
MONOTREME
TEMPERA
GUDETAMA
CREME
PHILOSOPHERS
CANDLING
ADVOCAAT
VIRGIN BOY
IVO ROBOTNIK
TAMAGOTCHI
SUN WUKONG
KINDER SURPRISE
CLOWN
TIMER
COLUMBUS
OEUF
KOSCHEI
CHUCKIE
FABERGE
SCOTCH
DEATH
PACE
JOURDAIN SOCIETY
CURATES
DEVILLED
But if I’m right, all that mess at the top right is only two answers…
Sadly one is not Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher
Incorrect, but you’re on the right track. The word in the top-left corner is German and incorporates some of the letters from ‘death’.
EIERHANDGRANATE!
A5 – KALTI PAARTI carving (also known as emu egg carving, from Australia)
And the last one is E6 – HEINZ WOLFF, best known for the BBC television series The Great Egg Race.

27. G13- CURATE’S
28. A5- KALTI PAARTI
29. H6- HEINZ WOLFF
Goodness, I’m kicking myself for not getting that one! I loved the series back in the day. I even bought his game for the DS when that came out, though I’m afraid it wasn’t terribly good.
But I have just discovered the BBC archive has several episodes available to watch: https://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/the-great-egg-race/zfyhd6f
