Friday Foxer #76

Every Friday at 1300 hours, Tally-Ho Corner’s cleverest clogs come together to solve a ‘foxer’ handcrafted by my sadistic chum and colleague, Roman. A complete ‘defoxing’ sometimes takes several days and usually involves the little grey cells of many readers. Don’t be shy. All are welcome to participate.

Roman’s annoyed with me. Apparently I was meant to run this themed jigsaw foxer last Friday. As usual, the idea is to identify the people, places, animals, and things in all 36 pieces:

e. Assassination of Jamal Khashoggi (gusdownnup)
f. Fashoda Incident (Colonel_K)
g. Catalina Affair (Viscount)
h. Dikko Kidnap(gusdownnup, Viscount, Colonel_K)
i. Pristina Airport Incident (Colonel_K, ylla)

  1. I think D6 is the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales (looks to have the three feather emblem), but it’s not one of the Wikipedia page pics.

  2. B1. King William II (Rufus) accidentally, allegedly, killed while hunting in the New Forest.

ETA: A1. Holy Crown of Hungary

  3. All very regal so far, so the next is debatable whether it is or isn’t:
    F2. Warhammer 40,000: REGICIDE

  4. B6 is, I think, either a packet of rothman’s king size or superking sized cigarettes, though I can’t pin down the right version.

    edit – I think it’s ‘rothman’s regal king size’.

  5. E3. Sherlock Holmes – The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual
(relates to finding the medieval crown of St. Edward)

  6. F6. Route of submarine U-47 sinking ROYAL OAK in Scapa Flow, 1939

ETA: F1. KING ABDULLAH II of Jordan, meeting Donald Trump, 2017
    (explains the not-really-ecstatic expression)

  7. C2. MONARCH 1955 brochure (featuring 3 series: Richelieu, Lucerne and the distinctly unfunky Custom)
    Automobile marque of Ford Canada

  8. F5. KINGPOST – on a wire-braced aircraft ie. hang glider (flex wing as opposed to rigid wing)

    I think that leaves just:
D2. some rock, presumably not on Earth?
C3. there are quite a few heraldic shrimp, this doesn’t seem official
C4. absolutely no idea, can’t even judge the scale
F4. is set most likely in Hungary, but might be southern Poland
E5. centred on London, can’t quite make out the text below “No German (something)”
