Every Friday at 1300 hours, Tally-Ho Corner’s cleverest clogs come together to solve a ‘foxer’ handcrafted by my sadistic chum and colleague, Roman. A complete ‘defoxing’ sometimes takes several days and usually involves the little grey cells of many readers. Don’t be shy. All are welcome to participate.
Below is a list of ‘33 Things Wot Are Odorous/Fragrant’ (‘things’ is used in its broadest possible sense). Entries have been stripped of vowels and numbers and have had any inter-word spaces repositioned*. For example, if ‘stink bomb’ was present it might appear as STN KBMB. Creosote would be CRST.

12. GNU MANURE
24. OPIUM DEN
Surely 20. for Gnu Manure.
Surely so! I’m not sure how that slipped through – maybe because I was so shocked that Roman hadn’t gone for the lovely palindrome GNU DUNG.
Not only did Roman not include GNU DUNG he didn’t (intentionally) include GNU MANURE. A rare/collectable Flare Path Flair Point to anyone who can provide the ‘official’ solution to 20.
GNOME URINE ??
Bah! Doesn’t quite work.
AUGEAN MANURE?
Those stables must have had quite the aroma before Hercules cleaned them up.
Ill go for
20. GUANO MANURE
or perhaps GUANO MINER ?

23. ROTORUA, New Zealand
‘A common nickname for Rotorua is “Sulphur City” due to the hydrogen sulphide emissions, which gives the city a smell similar to “rotten eggs”, as well as “Rotten-rua” combining its legitimate name and the rotten smell prevalent.’
My guess would be that 21. is (some flora) IN BLOOM.
The Corpse Flower at Kew Gardens is Titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum). I’d be doubtful of having a second ‘Arum’, though it would have to be one word, anyway.
I wanted it to be some kind of Syringa, but it doesn’t seem to fit.
So close!
21. SYRINGARIUM IN BLOOM
I’ve been trying to find some kind of BALM to match.
2. OIL PAINT ?
Smells more than water-based because of the Volatile Organic Whatsits, but not _really_ odorous, just likely to give you a headache.
4. RÄUCHERKERZE

9. ALIEN GODDESS INTENSE
Found Alien and went with it…turns out its a very potent perfume…
