Every Friday at 1300 hours, Tally-Ho Corner’s cleverest clogs come together to solve a ‘foxer’ handcrafted by my sadistic chum and colleague, Roman. A complete ‘defoxing’ sometimes takes several days and usually involves the little grey cells of many readers. Don’t be shy. All are welcome to participate.
The honeycomb below is a fancy form of wordsearch in which every cell is used, and words can curl and zigzag but never overlap. Each hive foxer has a theme (some past ones: rugby, human migration, Egypt…). Identifying the theme is a vital part of the defoxing process. Today’s puzzle is composed of 16 answers.

B8 – BOHEMIAN
It would be a very Friday 13th move of Roman if the obvious red herring on the K row turned out to not be a red herring.
Now I’ve said that, there is a Dublin football team called Bohemians and obviously one of the Sheffield clubs.
Don’t like Bohemian now as it makes the BCL triangle at the end of the C and D rows very awkward to make anything out of
Bohemian runs into CLUB, but that seems to be this rather than anything footbally https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemian_Club
M1. POWERFUL
M3. WOOD
ETA F3. CRAPSHOOT
H11 WINNER
D4 SHOOT
Just because Wednesday put football in my head…
L7 BELAY
MAGHREB at B3 (or possibly C3 is better)
Using the M at C3., you can then have LAKSHMI from D1.
C9 BLODEUWEDD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blodeuwedd
That doesn’t look coincidental, but I have no idea where it’s leading!
Ohhh – I tried to make that fit but somehow couldn’t, which led me to think bohemian was wrong.
It does clear up the Ds nicely 🙂
Something to do with Flowers?
BLODEUWEDD – means ‘Flower-faced’
LAKSHMI – usually shown holding a lotus flower
Or owls – Blodeuwedd was turned into one, and the Bohemian Club has one as a mascot…
And H12. MINERVA
but it leaves a loose R at F10.
She can finish at H8?
And Sheffield Wednesday are the Owls – Roman was playing with us
Aha: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maghreb_owl
H12 MINERVA (ending on the A at H8, I expect)
Goddesses then, maybe?
B4. TWIT-TWOO ?
ETA: F3. PELLET ?
H4 MOREPORK
F6 – PARLIAMENT – the collective noun for owls
F6 PARLIAMENT
H4 MOREPORK
F10 RAJAH SCOPS
Wednesday could yet be a red herring – Minerva, Parliament and Wednesday would leave an orphaned NE
F4 – CRESPINA – confirming Wednesday’s red herring status
I think we’re at 13 – 3 left at bottom right?
I’m in moderation – trying in bits 🙂
M3 WOODSY https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodsy_Owl
M1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powerful_owl
M4 – CAFE – apparantley Owl Cafes are a thing in Japan
An ELF owl (K5) is a thing, but it leaves an awful muddle behind!
M6 – FACIAL DISC
Making ylla’s K5 correct
And L7 – Belaney, aka Grey Owl https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_Owl
And that’s a wrap! Stellar work, gang.
That’s got to be one of the quickest honeycombs ever!
