Today I’m in an English town that doesn’t have a functioning police station. The town is part of a constituency that is represented in Westminster by an independent MP, and is in a county that has no green, yellow or blue on its flag. The most famous resident of the town appeared in over one hundred movies. Roughly 700 metres from the nearest railway station, and 800 from the nearest public library, I’d need to travel over twenty miles in order to reach the closest National Trust property.
