Where am I?

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, MAPfrappe, and other aids, work out my location.

Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.

Today I’m a little closer to the ground than usual. Not far from a sickle-shaped beach, I’m in a country that has produced one Pope, one UN Secretary-General, and a couple of Holy Roman Empresses. The country has a photo of a puppy cuddler on its Wikipedia page. Around seventeen miles from a fortress that, fifty years ago, held political prisoners, I’m slightly closer to the nearest protected area than I am to the nearest UNESCO World Heritage Site. The nearest post office is about 800 feet away. For a spell in 2016 this post office would have sold a postage stamp depicting a sizeable castle equilongitudinous with my location.

You’re probably in the right place if you can see…

  • A striped shirt
  • A striped dress
  • A striped vehicle
  • A striped post
  • A striped barrier
  • Footprints
  • Sunflowers
  • A mirror
  • The stump of an old windmill
  • The words “NEVER HIDE”
  • The words “HOW MUCH IS YOUR PROPERTY WORTH?”

I’m not in Pont-à-Mousson.

(Last week I was here)
