Solo Foxer #101

Unlike the formidable Friday foxers, the Monday kind are designed with lone truth sleuths in mind. While Roman, my Chief Foxer Setter, would be very interested to know how long it takes you to defox today’s brainteaser, he requests that the comments section isn’t used to share solutions or drop hints.

“Where am I?”

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View (all Solo Foxer solutions are Street Viewable), MAPfrappe, and other online tools, work out my location. The answer will appear under next Monday’s solo foxer.

Today don’t look for me in a country or in the country. I’m in the namesake of a steam locomotive, a PC game character, and a couple of Gallic movies, on a short urban street named after an 18th Century soldier. Roughly 110 metres away is the likeness of a sailor who died in battle. Equilatitudinous with ten US states, and equilongitudinous with three countries that begin with the same letter and have green on their flags, if I walked 20m south then turned to look west I’d be able to see the sea. Although the antipode of the spot you’re searching for is extremely wet, it’s about 2 kilometres from a golf course.

You’re probably in the right place if you can see…

  • A green crown
  • A bus shelter
  • A yellow Honda S2000
  • Penguins
  • A cableway
  • A water company HQ
  • Henry Cavill
  • Someone waving
  • The words “CUT LOOSE”

I’m not in Pont-à-Mousson.

(Last week I was here)

  1. Good Lord!

I _did_ get last week’s answer right; largely by ignoring the factoids and noticing the missing information (it had to happen sooner or later, and I was worried it was a double-bluff by Roman).
I’ve finally spotted the ‘100’ through the window and located the helipad as well.

  2. Ohhhhhhh

I can’t believe I didn’t figure out last week’s. My brain must have just automatically re-inserted the missing piece.

Well played, Roman, you crafty, crafty devil. You win that round!

    • I was on the right river, but didn’t have much spare time for hunting along it, or I might have fallen over the answer 🙂

    • The same, and that’s something I actively used to check for in the past. What an abject failure on my part.

A very worthy round. Well done Roman.

I have huge respect for the skill in making these solvable but not easy.

My record for the first 100 is 97 solved. I’m giving myself a half for one where I got to what turned out to the correct city but that took a long time an I was still not quite sure it was correct so eventually gave up. Two total failures where I didn’t get the country.

I’m back on the horse now though, Penguins ahoy!

  3. Wave ahoy! Probably about an hour total this week, 98% of which time was spent in identifying the overall geographic location.
