Where am I?

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, work out my location.

Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.

Today I’m in a city that has a photo of a seriously damaged cathedral on its Wikipedia page. Under its old name (**e****r****), the city is mentioned in an Indiana Jones movie and referenced on ten pages of James Barr’s A Line in the Sand. Roughly 700 metres from the nearest railway station, about 485 metres from the nearest veterinary clinic, and a stone’s throw from a spot where a registry office once stood, I’m in a country that played a neighbour in its last men’s rugby union international and narrowly lost. The country’s highest value banknote has a portrait of a poet on its reverse, and earlier this year its post office issued a stamp depicting, amongst other things, a cartoon donkey. My precise location has changed dramatically since the current Street View image was taken in Jan 2022.

You are probably in the right place if you can see…

  • Pink elephants
  • Wilma Flintstone
  • A huge pirate
  • Snow-topped peaks
  • Palm trees
  • A high fence
  • A Dacia 1310
  • Half-hearted castle decoration

(Last week I was here)
