Communal Combat Mission game fairly imminent

Assuming I pull my finger out, and don’t encounter any insoluble problems during testing, this year’s play-by-comment CM session will commence next Tuesday. Currently, it’s looking like there will be slots for six players. Chances are, three of those slots will be reserved for airlifters – the generous readers whose subscriptions are all that stands between Tally-Ho Corner and instant extinction.

Reliant on Combat Mission: Afrika Korps, the bespoke scenario/concept isn’t quite as avant-garde as last year’s not-entirely-successful PvP experiment, but it’s also far from conventional. Would I be giving too much away if I said it was inspired by an ongoing international event that’s making headlines around the world?

Each unit will be assigned on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, and will remain the responsibility of the appointed comment commander for the duration of the battle, so if you’d like to participate in one of PC wargaming’s strangest – and most enjoyable? – MP traditions, be sure to be keyboard adjacent on Aug 6, and be ready to issue orders perhaps twice a week for the following six weeks.

  1. Yay, one of the best events each year. Hmm, I lost my tank destroyer in the first turn last year – too aggressive with it – so might just spectate this time!!

  2. I would very much like to participate, if there are any slots available? I wanted to do it last time but missed out. Am I allowed to choose to play on the DAK side, if possible?

    • Comment promptly under the next Tuesday’s launch post and there’s a fair chance you’ll wind up a Comment Commander (units are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, with some only available to subscribers). The CPU will be marshalling all Axis units this year.

  3. “it was inspired by an ongoing international event that’s making headlines around the world”
Huh, never thought I’d see a mission inspired by Tailor Swift’s Eras tour, but that’s obviously what this clue is hinting at…

    😉
