Friday Foxer #179

This week’s handmade co-op puzzle won’t defox itself. If you’re a dab hand at quizzes, lateral thinking, and search engine sleuthing, why not help out.

To fully defox the following geofoxer, identify all twelve locations plus the theme that links them.

    • Chuffin’ Roman!
The image is from Wikipedia, NOT Google StreetView.
And I was going to comment how featureless and white the continent is in Google Maps; and how it doesn’t have overlays for Traffic or Cycling, but _does_ for Wildfires.

  1. Needing confirmation again, I reckon L. to be a “Comet tank [that] has become a tourist attraction for locals and visitors alike.

It is located in the Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes National Nature Reserve (Lincolnshire) – which is about a 45-minute drive away from Cleethorpes.”

  2. B. (needs confirming) Fort HOLMES, Mackinac Island – available for weddings

Quote: “Comet Holmes (official designation: 17P/Holmes) is a periodic comet in the Solar System, discovered by the British amateur astronomer Edwin Holmes on November 6, 1892. Although normally a very faint object, Holmes became notable during its October 2007 return when it temporarily brightened by a factor of a million, in what was the largest known outburst by a comet, and became visible to the naked eye. It also briefly became the largest object in the Solar System, as its coma (the thin dissipating dust ball around the comet) expanded to a diameter greater than that of the Sun (although its mass remained minuscule).”

  3. H. is from NSW Rail Museum, Thirlmere, Australia

Locomotive is an 0-6-0 of Australian Iron & Steel Ltd. named “Bronzewing”.
    No obvious link to comets.

    • I didn’t find anything on the locomotive, but the carriage on the right side of the picture is a Bradfield C3045.
Looking for clue linked to comets, I found William A. Bradfield. According to its Wikipedia page, he “was a New Zealand-born Australian amateur astronomer, notable as a prolific amateur discoverer of comets. He discovered 18 comets, all of which bear his name as the sole discoverer”.
