Unlike the formidable Friday foxers, the Monday kind are designed with lone truth sleuths in mind. While Roman, my Chief Foxer Setter, would be very interested to know how long it takes you to defox today’s brainteaser, he requests that the comments section isn’t used to share solutions or drop hints.
“Where am I?”
Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View (all Solo Foxer solutions are Street Viewable), MAPfrappe, and other online tools, work out my location. The answer will appear under next Monday’s solo foxer.
Today I’m standing on a railway track that hasn’t seen a train in a while. A stone’s throw from a canal, and a garden named after a German communist, the spot you are searching for is two kilometres from a school named after a famous New Zealander, three miles from a 50m-tall armed man, and 2860 bamboos from a life-size model of a T. Rex. If I wished to cross the canal without getting wet, the closest option is a footbridge to the NbW. 360m away, the nearest football pitch is ringed by a running track, and has a watery name. Although I’m not, strictly speaking, within a capital city, I’m so close to one you could be forgiven for thinking I am. The city in question has a thorny plant on its coat of arms, a picture of an orange metro train on its Wikipedia page, and has hosted more than one FIFA World Cup final.
You’re probably in the right place if you can see…
- At least five dogs
- A Transtar II
- An ironing board
- A colourful mural
- Wire coathangers
- Lofty electricty pylons
- The word ‘EXCEED’
I’m not in Pont-à-Mousson.
(Last week I was here)
I’m nearly positive I’m VERY close, but something isn’t quite adding up with the distances…and I haven’t been able to find the spot by trial and error.
EDIT: realized that I was parsing one sentence wrong, which will hopefully make a difference!
EXCEED ahoy! I’ll note that I had to violate what I thought was an unwritten foxer rule to get there. (But the distances were correct. My mistake!)
An ironing board ahoy!! Pretty straightforward this week as an early guess paid off for once. After a couple of shockers recently it’s been great to polish the last two off in less than half an hour each.
