A is for Alphabetised game news. Roman believes arranging game news alphabetically is “pointless” and “stupid” and THC should cease doing it forthwith. While I agree with him in principle, I feel a fifthwith or sixthwith cessation would be more sensible.
B is for Balkan bloodshed
Wars Across The World’s latest add-on recalls the conflict that transformed south-eastern Europe in 1912-13. Playing as the Turks in £4, 21-turn Balkans 1912, promises to be punishing. Flanked by hostile Serbia, Bulgaria, and Greece, the Ottomans’ 67-region European wedge is seriously vulnerable.
C is for Cardboard spin-off
It looks like we’re going to get an analogue sequel to B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th before a digital one. The board game offshoot of MicroProse’s upcoming B-17 Flying Fortress The Bloody 100th looks much closer to completion than the sim itself.
D is for Difficult Dutch decisions
Survive, Resist, Collaborate, a WW2 choose-your-own-adventure with a strong demo, hits Steam later today. Niels, its creator, based one of the title’s narrative pathways on his grandfather’s wartime experiences: “He passed away more than 20 years ago, so I had to fill in a lot of the blanks myself. I won’t spoil which path it is. The game will let you know at the end if you’ve found it.”
E is for Enticing emphasis?
Frontline Logistics: Isarian Warfare is an isometric wargame with a difference. Apparently inspired by the ongoing war in Ukraine, it centres and details the kind of logistical minutiae that game devs usually abstract. Enjoy tactical wargames and care about how many calories there are in a jar of pickled cucumbers? Give the demo a whirl.
F is for Free heli sim headed for Steam
Until I watched the above vid, I didn’t realise you could wield a revolver while flying the surprisingly simmy MD-500 in Defender Patrol. Dev Hijong Park is already scheming a payware sequel to his Steam-bound freebie: “After [the Steam release] I’ll burn another year making something that’s worth 12 dollars.”
Well that is a surprise, I had assumed development on Bloody 100th had stopped given the paucity of news. Very happy to see work is still underway AND a new boardgame in tow. Time for me to add some more money to the unfinished Microprose project fund…
