Alphabetised game news (L2P)

L is for Light at the end of the tunnel at long last? General Staff: Black Powder’s website and Steam page haven’t been updated in a dishearteningly long time, but recent posts on the Kickstarter page give wargame AI aficionados a faint glimmer of hope.

M is for Mannable Marders make it into GHPC

Currently, three of the stylish/swift prototype’s four weapons are useable in Radian’s sim: the 20 mm Rheinmetall MK 20 Rh202 autocannon, the coaxial MG 3, and the MILAN launcher. The natty rear-facing MG 3 pod which, in real-life, would be operated by mounted infantry, is not functional yet.

N is for New engine and new emphasis

Keen to see what difference an engine switch and a pivot towards realism make to work-in-progress Medic: Pacific War, I’ve just requested access to the playtest. After perusing the Steam forum, I’ve also added “Watch Hacksaw Ridge” to my to-do list. Hypnotic Ant describe Desmond Doss as a “major inspiration”.

O is for One of my all-time favourite sim features

The, sadly, semi-abandoned Narrowboat Simulator includes one of the most satisfying actions in all Simulatia – pushing-off. When close to a canal bank, dabbing the push-off button simulates a leg or barge pole shove in the current view direction and position. Gently guiding, re-aligning, and arresting boats in this way, is so novel, natural, and simple, it invariably puts a smile on my mill race.

P is for Panzer perfectionists poo-poo P2W

In their latest vid, Delta Game Studios, the outfit behind upcoming multiplayer tank sim Aces and Armour explain their slightly unusual monetisation plans. Keen to avoid battlefields crowded with outlandish ‘paper Panzers’ like the Sturer Emil and Tiger (P), DGS will be selling these AFVs in very limited numbers and simming their various shortcomings.
