Most of the gaming swag/tat I was given during press trips in the Noughties, swiftly found its way onto eBay or the shelves of local charity shops. There were exceptions though. I still slurp hot beverages from an IL-2 Forgotten Battles mug on occasion, and for many years my views of rural England were linteled by the brim of a Delta Force bush hat.
Before I foolishly dropped it somewhere on Salisbury Plain, me and that faded/faithful bonce cosy travelled hundreds – maybe thousands – of miles together. It was certainly dearer to me than the military shooter series it quietly advertised.
That said, I have sufficient happy memories of voxely violence, to recognise and enjoy Dagger Directive’s shameless hero-worship of NovaLogic’s early shooters.
The 1GB demo includes a visit to an assault course and firing range, and an exciting solo sortie in the Caucasus.
A large, verdant venue studded with run-down dwellings and tempting sniper roosts … many types of selectable/scavengeable weaponry… foes that hurl smoke grenades and attempt to flank… leaning… on-call arty… there’s a lot that’s likeable in the trial.
Assuming Arcane Alpacas manage to eliminate situations like this…
and this…
(There are times when it’s possible to walk or run right up to foes without being detected)
… in coming months, and improve the marksmanship and fire discipline of their enemies a tad, the full version of Dagger Directive is guaranteed a spot on Ada’s hard drive.
Will definitely be having a punt on this later. Thanks for highlighting it!
Delta Force is and always was a pretty middling series, but I have real soft spot for it. I replayed the original game last year and still had a good time with it!
