This week’s handmade co-op puzzle won’t defox itself. If you’re a dab hand at quizzes, lateral thinking, and search engine sleuthing, why not help out.
Roman, THC’s Chief Foxer Setter, is old enough to remember the days when there were Cheryls and Paulas in most classrooms, and highwaymen still plied their trade along the A303. He also recalls the time when all Friday Foxers were collage foxers.

I’m glad to be able to get one:
Sub’s conning tower, lower left = INS Dakar (formerly HMS Totem)
I think the link is rallys – the bottom left is the insignia for the Budapest-Bamako rally ( https://www.budapestbamako.org/ ), and Dakar (formerly Paris-Dakar) is another one.
Top middle is Khartoum war game:
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/286135/khartoum-sudan-1883-to-1885
So African capitals rather than rallys then?
Yep, the film poster is Algiers.
Top Left is USS Tripoli
Top right could be the wreck of the SS City of Cairo… (Can’t find that pic)
Then the letters rearrange to: Antananarivo (Madagascar)
The black and white logo/patch on the left side ist for the MOGADISHU Mile commemorative event.
The comic panel is from a comic by Antonia Vassalo about Operation Green Sea – a Portuguese attack on Conakry, the capital of Guinea.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Green_Sea
The race track is Autódromo Internacional de Luanda, in Luanda, Angola
Map on the bottom left corner is a magnetic anomaly. There is two: the Bangui magnetic anomaly in central Africa and the Kursk magnetic anomaly in eastern Europe.
So Bangui, capital of Central African Republic
The dog in the bottom center is the Dogcow, created by Susan Kare as the glyph for “z”. It is part of the Cairo font.
So Cairo, capital of Egypt.
Also, I doubt that the ship in the top right corner is City of Cairo.
Still missing:
– Boat on the top right corner. Not sure which part of the ship it is.
– The man (a sniper?) in bottom right corner. Could be a picture of war or a movie poster.
The man is indeed a sniper. It is Juba, also the name of the South Sudan capital.
The ship is the SS Monrovia, Monrovia being the capital of Liberia
