Where am I?

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, work out my location.

Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.

Today, I’m in a city that hit the headlines in the summer of 1961. During four turbulent days around 650 people died and more than twice that number were wounded. A Great War air ace with over forty kills to his name was born in the city. Around 700 metres from the local railway station and 1400 metres from the nearest prison, I’m closer to the nearest mosque than I am to the nearest restaurant. In July last year there was a fire close to the spot where I’m standing. The country you are searching for has a red and white flag, a photo of M113 APCs on its Wikipedia page, and a Roman ruin on one its current banknotes.

You are probably in the right place if you can see…

  • A guitar
  • A daredevil
  • A shark
  • A cement works
  • A paddling pool
  • A police station
  • A slipway
  • A Scouts fleur-de-lis
  • Red kerbstones
  • White kerbstones
  • Large yellow and black gates
  • A white Peugeot Boxer
  • Lipsticks
  • Minarets
  • The word ‘Boga’
  • The container ship AURETTE A
  • A billboard warning of the dangers of using a phone while driving.

(Last week I was here)
