Where am I?

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, work out my location.

Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.

Today, you’ll find me on an island that has been visited by a couple of famous video gaming protagonists. The island’s economy is heavily reliant on tourism, its flag features both a weapon and a bird, and VW Beetles are pretty common on its roads. An English singer-songwriter, arguably best-known for singing on a famous Christmas single, died around ten kilometres from my location. On a four-lane road that runs NW-SE, I’m roughly 1.95 kilometres from an asphalt runway that has a big ‘29’ painted at one end. Last year approximately 700,000 passengers passed through the adjacent terminal. The nearest roundabout to my location is about 130 metres away and has a palm tree in its centre. The nearest church is used by Protestants. If you were to travel, in Street View, from today’s spot to said church, you’d pass a host of fibreglass oddities including a smiling octopus, a winged merman, and a whale shark.

You are probably in the right place if you can see…

  • A jaguar
  • A jellyfish
  • A crustacean chef
  • An armoured van
  • Razor wire
  • Rebar
  • Pillion passengers
  • A feather-adorned shaman’s hat
  • The words ‘SUPRESION DE FUGAS and ‘CARIBE’

(Last week I was here)

  1. Never heard of that island before 😑
Maybe 30 mins with the kids, they are into geo guessing at the moment so they like those too.
Lost some time as we thought the the bull at the roundabout was a jaguar, upon closer inspection it isn’t.
