Where am I?

Today I’m roughly two hundred metres from an ocean and less than ten miles from a country that gained independence in the mid Sixties. Equilatitudinous with a country that has purple on its flag, and equilongitudinous with an island that attracts over a million British tourists every year, I’m in a village where colourful fishing boats are common. The nearest international border follows a serpentine river. The nearest railway is a seemingly abandoned branch line that vanishes into the savannah about 100 miles NNE of my location.
