Solo Foxer #58

Unlike the formidable Friday foxers, the Monday kind are designed with lone truth sleuths in mind. While Roman, my Chief Foxer Setter, would be very interested to know how long it takes you to defox today’s brainteaser, he requests that the comments section isn’t used to share solutions or drop hints.

“Where am I?”

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View (all Solo Foxer solutions are Street Viewable), MAPfrappe, and other online tools, work out my location. The answer will appear under next Monday’s solo foxer.

Today I’m in the midst of a photo shoot. The photo shoot is taking place on a narrow street that shares a name with an Oscar-winning 1990s movie. Outside a pizzeria that’s a stone’s throw from a six-lane highway named after a man who died in 1983, I’m about 2000m from a museum of immigration, 6250m from a replica of the Statue of Liberty, and 3100m from a warship built in England during Queen Victoria’s reign. The city where you’ll find me, last saw snow fifteen years ago, has a metro system, and is the setting for a three-part adventure game sold on Steam. The country you’re after sent six athletes to this year’s Winter Olympics. Equilatitudinous with three countries where motorists drive on the left, I share longitude with two British Overseas Territories and one Commonwealth country. To reach the nearest railway track I’d need to crow-fly SW 205m.

You’re probably in the right place if you can see…

  • A spiral staircase
  • A football
  • A dog
  • A red Citroen Berlingo
  • The words ‘SHYNESS IS NICE’

I’m not in Pont-à-Mousson.

(Last week I was here)

  1. Photoshoot, ahoy!
I’ve enjoyed the different style clues to general location the last couple of weeks.

  2. This was fun. 10 mins I think. I usually get to about 20 open tabs / 30 mins (whichever comes first) and throw in the towel, but all the stars aligned for this attempt. Thanks Roman.

    • I bought a ridiculously wide-screen monitor. It’s great for work and all, but it really comes into its own once a week for the Solo Foxer tab explosion.

  3. Took me about 10 mins to find the right street. Total luck: my first Street View click on the street showed me the spiral staircase, dog and red Citroen Berlingo. Then took me another 15 minutes to find “SHYNESS IS NICE” and the football. Off to make an appointment with an optician.

  4. Nice one!
I can’t imagine how Tim manages to find such strange situations in Street View… Tim, do you chose a city then pick a location at random, or is there a logic to your method of selection?

    • Roman claims solo foxer locations come to him in dreams, but I suspect he just sticks a pin in a map then rambles about in Street View until something catches his eye.
