Solo Foxer #32

Unlike the formidable Friday foxers, the Monday kind are designed with lone truth sleuths in mind. While Roman, my Chief Foxer Setter, would be very interested to know how long it takes you to defox the following brainteaser, he requests that the comments section isn’t used to share solutions or drop hints.

“Where am I?”

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, Wikipedia, MAPfrappe and other tools, work out my location. The answer will appear under next Monday’s solo foxer.

A game dev seeking a name for a fictional 1970s automobile could do worse than borrow the name of the town I’m in today. Equilatitudinous with one landlocked country, one country beginning with the letter K, and an island you can fly directly to from Prague, Bristol, and Eindhoven, the town has a population of roughly 2000, and is skirted by a road over 3000 kilometres in length. You’ll find me approximately 130 metres from a railway line and twice that from a rice storage facility. About 50 kilometres away is a nuclear power plant and its polygonal reservoir. The plant began commercial operations in the 80s. The country you’re seeking has never produced a UN Secretary-General, a Pope, or an Olympic gold medal-winning male judoka. I’m closer to Tokyo than I am to Athens, and nearer the equator than Sydney is.

You’re probably in the right place if you can see…

  • Traffic lights
  • A bank
  • Half a dozen petrol pumps
  • The words ‘Lake’, ‘Ward’ and ‘ICE’
  • A Kubota tractor with three wheels

I’m not in Pont-à-Mousson.

(Last week I was here)

  1. Ok, a false lead took me down a very time-consuming and frustrating rabbit hole. Once I started fresh, it took me about 30 minutes. This was a good one!

  2. Hmm. Pretty sure I’m in roughly the right place but I can’t quite place all the pieces. I hope I haven’t fallen down honanhal’s rabbit hole…
