Unlike the formidable Friday foxers, the Monday kind are designed with lone truth sleuths in mind. While Roman, my Chief Foxer Setter, would be very interested to know how long it takes you to defox today’s brainteaser, he requests that the comments section isn’t used to share solutions or drop hints.
“Where am I?”
Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View (all Solo Foxer solutions are Street Viewable), MAPfrappe, and other online tools, work out my location. The answer will appear under next Monday’s solo foxer.
Today you’ll find me on a road named after a man who died a violent death in 1971. Roughly 730 metres from an outsized Sterling submachine gun, 920 metres from a large jute mill, and 300 metres from a tank farm, I’m a stone’s throw from two ponds, one of which has a derelict ‘MATERNITY & CHILD WELFARE CENTRE’ on its bank. The nearest railway station is a terminus. Less than 250 miles from a country that has a population of under a million, I’m in a riverside city known for its fishing industry. Said city is in a country where people drive on the left, the official language isn’t written using the Latin script, and the manager of the men’s national football team is a Spaniard; one of the rivers in question is over a mile wide. I’m equilatitudinous with one of the first cities ever bombed from the air.
You’re probably in the right place if you can see…
- More three-wheeled than four-wheeled vehicles
- Concrete railway sleepers
- Coconut palms
- At least half a dozen Brazilian flags
- A lesser bougainvillea
- A boy with his hands in his pockets
- A cockerel
- Lionel Messi
I’m not in Pont-à-Mousson.
(Last week I was here)
Cockerel ahoy! Found the country immediately (pretty easy having lived there!) and then some trial and error to find the spot — about 20 minutes.
Lionel Messi ahoy! A bit longer than that for me this week, but not by much. And the satisfaction of a perfect first time drop in Street View.
