Every Friday at 1300 hours, Tally-Ho Corner’s cleverest clogs come together to solve a ‘foxer’ handcrafted by my sadistic chum and colleague, Roman. A complete ‘defoxing’ sometimes takes several days and usually involves the little grey cells of many readers. Don’t be shy. All are welcome to participate.
Rithmetic foxers are equations disguised as picture sequences. Each pic in the three specimens below represents a number (For example a photo of The Flying Scotsman might signify 4472, 462, or 3). It’s your job to identify the mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division) indicated by the lettered squares. The BIDMAS rule applies. If a solution involves brackets or indices, Roman will mention it.

Red 3: Mariner 10 on a 10 cent stamp. (issued in 1975, but I’d guess it’s one of the 10s we’re after)

Red 4 – T19 Howitzer Carrier.
Red 5 could be the P36 Oil platform?
BOS 400
Green 4 – Gaz M20 Pobeda (Typed in Russian cars, 1950’s, 2nd pic 🙂 )
Blue 1 – 12cm Kanone M80? It looks about right, though I haven’t found the exact picture.

12 cm Lang staal
Red 2: FS Class E.330
Blue 3: Kesla 20RH
Green 3: Granatenwerfer 16
Blue: 12 / 4 * 20 = 60
Krupp 12cm Lang Staal Danish field artillery / K4 Phonebox * Kesla 20RH (for tree felling) = 60 Seconds
Green 1: 500 Malagasy ariary from Madagascar
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malagasy_ariary
500 ? 14 ? 16 ? 20 ? 2 ? 5 = 25
ETA:
500 / (14 + 16 + 20) * 2 + 5 = 25
Red: 414 – (330 / 10) + 19 = 400
Roman must’ve become a lot kinder with his arithmetic.
