Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, work out my location.
Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.
Today I’m in an English town that features in a series of whodunnit novels recently adapted for TV. Cut in half, the town’s name becomes two anagramised animals. A stone’s throw from a river that has a photos of an oil refinery and a seal on its Wikipedia page, and roughly 7.75 miles from a faux Sonderkraftfahrzeug, I’m in a county that has a Brutalist county hall and doesn’t play first-class cricket. The closest railway station is a terminus with one platform. The nearest motorway is about three miles away and has a two digit number.
You are probably in the right place if you can see…
- a nave
- eyebars
- blue footwear
- limp flags of St George and St Andrew
- the word ‘FILIPPI’
- the word ‘BUDAPEST’
- a 4-star hotel in need of gutter repairs
(Last week I was here)

Very easy, less than 10 minutes for once.
