Today you’ll find me less than 200 metres from a prison, a railway turntable, a mosque, and a large Buddha statue, and roughly 950 metres from a hotel that charges around 700 GBP a night. Under a tree, I’m in an Asian city that was not occupied by Japanese forces during WW2. The city’s name is an anagram of an English word meaning “permitted by ***”. The city has a twin in common with Bergisch Gladbach and is in the south of a country that has never won an Olympic gold medal or qualified for a FIFA World Cup finals, but has won a ******* World Cup. Said country has a left-wing government, a female PM, and a higher telephone calling code than its nearest neighbour.
