While I can’t tell you whether Pure Rock Crawling’s depiction of rock crawling is superior to BeamNG.drive’s and Expeditions’, I’m hoping at least one THC reader has the necessary expertise and time to answer this question via a comment. What I can say is that my first few hours with Maciej Kuzianik’s £10 (until November 11) boulder bothering sim have flown by and I’ve enjoyed every minute so far.
Plausible* PRC comes with six different customisable 4x4s and four extremely lumpy maps.
* If you ignore the weak audio (Engines sound synthetic, and there’s a disappointing lack of creaks and thumps) , superficial damage modelling (Tyres, axles, and sumps are indestructible), and flawed clutch implementation (Stalling through clumsy clutch use seems to be impossible, as does holding a vehicle on a slope using the clutch).
Scored trails that can be tackled in any order (or, if you’d rather ramble, totally ignored) encourage you to take on the trickiest, most rock-strewn portions of each map.
Interestingly, the invisible clipboard clutchers that scrutinise progress on trails, don’t carry stopwatches. How quickly you get from A to B is of no consequence. What matters is avoiding the cones and stakes that serve as gates.
Early Accessors had to wait a surprisingly long time for wheel and pedal support, and, judging by this thread, there’s still work to do in this area. Hopefully, Maciej won’t abandon Pure Rock Crawling now it’s hit v1.00. Judiciously enhanced, this likeable sim could be truly unmissable.
