Imagine if the next Brothers in Arms game was set in contemporary Ukraine and forbade the use of first- and third-person views. You’ve just pictured Drone Perspective, a low-headcount military RTT with a demo, a ‘coming soon’ ETA, and a topical vibe.
Wargamers and simmers may find the artfully scattered chunks of linear cover in the trial levels and the scripted finale to the first mission a tad contrived, but should appreciate the destructible scenery, the emphasis on flanking and suppression, and the way foes and friendlies react to pressure and injuries.
Hopefully, before release, developer Demetri Lind will rethink the drone’s flight model and camera controls, and polish unit pathfinding. Currently, warriors sometimes struggle to bypass obstructions cleanly, and steering your quadcopter and aiming its lens is nowhere near as intuitive as it should be.
I saw this dev soliciting feedback on reddit recently! I think it’s an interesting concept for sure, and I hope it treats it’s subject matter appropriately.
Honestly, I’m surprised (and perhaps relieved) that we haven’t seen some sort of asymmetric cat & mouse game featuring a drone operator hunting a team of players making the rounds hoping for virality yet.
The phrase “shell hunger” to deny artillery access feels like the start to a WW1 gothic horror story.
