Where am I?

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, work out my location.

Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.

Today I’m in a country that is over 70% Catholic according to a 2021 census. The country’s national women’s football side has lost its last six internationals, and the country’s airforce flies five types of domestically-produced aircraft in addition to various imported types. The nearest railway station is less than two miles away, and is west of my location. Said station has just been modernised with financial help from the EU. I’m less than a mile from the banks of a transnational river about 174 km in length, about five km from a large factory where EMUs are made, and four miles from a stylish structure from which a particular species of rodent can be observed. The nearest capital city is in a foreign country, but not a neighbouring foreign country. If I look to the NE I can see houses lining a road named after a world famous figure.

You are probably in the right place if you can see…

  • A horseshoe
  • A stream
  • Masts
  • Snow
  • Mountains
  • A golden retriever
  • Lumber
  • A chainsaw
  • A windmill
  • A black caravan
  • The word ‘INTERCOOLER’
  • The word ‘KORDIAN’

(Last week I was here)

  1. Mountains ahoy! Tough this week, probably a couple of hours (or more!). Very quick to the country and the general region but then hopelessly side-tracked with one of those ‘matches enough of the clues to waste a fair bit of time before I reluctantly conclude I’m wrong’ situations.

  2. Golden Retriever, ahoy! A challenging one this week – I got stuck looking at a different (I assume) golden retriever nearly a hundred miles away! Kudos to ylla for assistance.
