Early Access Silent Depth 2: Pacific is less than two hours away

If MicroProse make their deadline, tomorrow’s THC post – and possibly Thursday’s too – will consist of first impressions of Early Access Silent Depth 2: Pacific, a “sim lite game for those who want to put their foot in the door and understand the challenges of being a Submarine Commander”. The newcomer appears to boast snazzier visuals than its main rival, the recently expanded Crash Dive II. What I’m keen to find out is whether it can out-realism CD2, and match it for accessibility, operational freedom, and mission variety.

  1. This one was on my Steam wishlist until it hit early access and the reviews landed. It’s still on my wishlist, but will need to improve swiftly to stay there.

For the same price I could grab the two Crash Dive II extensions, although I only put 13 hours into that. Another Uboat game leaves early access in early August, and has already given me 115 hours of gameplay, even before it adds additional uboat models.

So I’ll keep watching Silent Depth 2 but it’s a good time to be a casual sub simmer.
