This week’s handmade co-op puzzle won’t defox itself. If you’re a dab hand at quizzes, lateral thinking, and search engine sleuthing, why not help out.
To fully defox the following geofoxer, identify all twelve locations plus the theme that links them.

And I was going to comment how featureless and white the continent is in Google Maps; and how it doesn’t have overlays for Traffic or Cycling, but _does_ for Wildfires.

Right by a big sign saying “Stardust”!
Stardust was the first sample return mission and collected dust samples from the comet Wild 2 deposited back to Earth in January 2006.

The tall ship is the Stavros S Niarchos.
Hartley Quay => Malcolm HARTLEY ?

Hartley is best known for his discovery and co-discovery of 10 comets since the 1980s…”
The Deep Impact mission was extended and made a flyby of Comet Hartley 2 (103P/Hartley) on November 4th 2010.

ESA’s Rosetta orbiter visited comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.
It needs someone to confirm the location but I think C. is the Tempel synagogue in Krakow.
I was about to say krakow due to the heated tour cart.

As the home of Copernicus? He’s not comets exactly…
Quote: “Wilhelm Tempel was a German astronomer who worked in Marseille until the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, then later moved to Italy.
…. He was a prolific discoverer of comets, discovering or co-discovering 21 in all, including Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, now known to be the parent body of the Leonid meteor shower, and 9P/Tempel, the target of the NASA probe Deep Impact in 2005.”
Stardust also visited 9P/Tempel in February 2011.
D. possibly Dartmouth with view of Royal Naval College ?
Confirmed: view from Higher Contour Rd, Kingswear.

Or maybe DART?

I was going to report that E was St John the Baptist’s church in Port Glasgow, but my google maps link tells me that it’s the Comet roundabout, so with Halley I think we have our theme!

Needing confirmation again, I reckon L. to be a “Comet tank [that] has become a tourist attraction for locals and visitors alike.
It is located in the Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes National Nature Reserve (Lincolnshire) – which is about a 45-minute drive away from Cleethorpes.”

B. (needs confirming) Fort HOLMES, Mackinac Island – available for weddings
Quote: “Comet Holmes (official designation: 17P/Holmes) is a periodic comet in the Solar System, discovered by the British amateur astronomer Edwin Holmes on November 6, 1892. Although normally a very faint object, Holmes became notable during its October 2007 return when it temporarily brightened by a factor of a million, in what was the largest known outburst by a comet, and became visible to the naked eye. It also briefly became the largest object in the Solar System, as its coma (the thin dissipating dust ball around the comet) expanded to a diameter greater than that of the Sun (although its mass remained minuscule).”

Locomotive is an 0-6-0 of Australian Iron & Steel Ltd. named “Bronzewing”.
No obvious link to comets.
I didn’t find anything on the locomotive, but the carriage on the right side of the picture is a Bradfield C3045.
Looking for clue linked to comets, I found William A. Bradfield. According to its Wikipedia page, he “was a New Zealand-born Australian amateur astronomer, notable as a prolific amateur discoverer of comets. He discovered 18 comets, all of which bear his name as the sole discoverer”.
Here: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_A._Bradfield
