Where am I?

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, work out my location.

Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.

Today, you could say, I’m on three different planets. On a road in the US that’s aligned north-south, I’m roughly 1.5km from a red lighthouse constructed, in challenging conditions, in the Nineteenth Century, and 1.3km from an under-construction road bridge. The nearest fire station houses yellow fire engines, and is closer than the nearest McDonalds or vets. Due south of a local church and an eight-minute walk from the closest railroad crossing, I’m about seventy miles from the closest bit of foreign terra firma. The terra firma in question is part of a country that has a triangle on its flag, a wading bird on its coat of arms, and a fruit on one its coins. Within sixty metres of my location there are five outdoor swimming pools and two houses numbered 361.

You are probably in the right place if you can see…

  • Coconuts
  • Seahorses
  • Mailboxes
  • A red Nissan Pathfinder
  • No pedestrians
  • Almost no road markings
  • An upright basketball pole
  • A horizontal basketball pole
  • A recently resurfaced drive
  • A small, ragged Stars and Stripes

  1. Enjoy word games?

I found the demo for Sternly Worded Adventures in Steam’s latest festival.

The connective tissue is pixel art and roguelike adventure – two things I’m not a fan of, viewing it as a test of word-conjuring rather than the game I’ve been waiting for. YMMV.
Combat is turn-based against a series of solitary foes, damage dealt from the word you create in a ‘Boggle’/’Scrabble’ cross. Overkill replenishes your own health.
    Dungeons take me 20-30 minutes.
    Shrines are ‘Wordle’.
Out of combat you manage your consumables and equipment for the boons they provide.
