Where am I?

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, work out my location.

Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.

Today you’ll find me in a place that almost featured in the last Friday Foxer. About a mile from the wreck of a sizeable British ship deliberately beached in 194*, and 1.5km from the centre of a big steel mill, I’m closer to a military cemetery than I am to a church, shop, or canal. The country you are searching for won its last two women’s football internationals by one goal margins, and scored more than 30 in its last two two men’s rugby union internationals. I’m a twenty-minute cycle ride from an international border.

You are probably in the right place if you can see…

  • A dog
  • A boat
  • An avenue of pine trees
  • Bullet-nibbled brickwork
  • Statuary
  • A JCB 540
  • Outsized butterflies
  • A water tower
  • Red lampposts
  • The words ‘SIGNAL AUTOMATIQUE’

(Last week I was here)

  1. Pretty quick and no mis-steps this week. 15 or 20 minutes at the outside I reckon.

    Red lampposts ahoy!
