Where am I?

Using the following clues (the map above is purely decorative) in combination with Street View, work out my location.

Although Roman, THC’s chief puzzlewright, would be interested to know how long it takes you to solve this solo foxer, he’d rather you didn’t put spoilers or solutions in the comments.

Today you’ll find me on an island that has a flowery flag, a smaller population than Guernsey, and has been ruled by Germany and Spain in the past. On a windy road that takes its name from a local peak, I’m about 426 metres above sea level and the same distance from a bilingual information board titled “Death in the Valley”. Within four miles of my location there’s a cathedral, two jails, and three tanks that haven’t moved in roughly eighty years. The nearest steam locomotive is less than two miles away and approximately WNW of my location.

You are probably in the right place if you can see…

  • A RAV4
  • Five traffic cones
  • Nine Cyrillic letters
  • A Caterpillar 14G
  • A bamboo fence
  • A wiggly wall
  • A concrete driveway of unusual design
  • Radio masts
  • The ocean
  • No tarmac or road markings
  • No people
  • An email address

(Last week I was here)

  1. A wiggly wall ahoy! No obvious starting point this week, but a bit of random Googling* lead to a likely candidate island and then the answer. About half an hour or so.

    * This is largely how I do my actual job.

  2. 43 minutes, with assistance from another brain, a new record for me. Appreciate the ability to go back and try these previous posts.
